History
Juneteenth is an annual festival that commemorates the emancipation of slavery of African Americans in the southern states of the United States in 1865. This holds prominence in Texas since this was the last state to free the enslaved two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by Abraham Lincoln.
Programming
In celebration of Juneteenth, we host multi-day programming events:
Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership will select films or movies that provide a contextual view of culture and identity development. These films or movies can be social in nature, which IDEAL will provide FREE tickets to newly released tickets at the box office or these can be structured to have a talk back at the conclusion of the film.
