Preventing and Addressing Sexual Misconduct

The university policy on Preventing and Addressing Sexual Misconduct is intended to promote an environment at Temple University that is free of sexual assaults, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual exploitation as well as one that is consistent with other constitutional protections and personal freedoms.

This policy also reflects the university’s commitment to educate, counsel and train all of the members of the university community about the nature of sexual harassment, its impact on individuals and the university community as a whole, and the steps necessary to combat it.

Specifically, the policy provides for:

• Comprehensive education and prevention programs that inform the university community about the risks and myths that contribute to sexual assaults, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
• Procedures sensitive to victims in responding to reports of alleged sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual exploitation, including informing victims about their right to file criminal charges as well as the availability of medical, counseling and support services and alternative remedies such as housing and academic accommodation, if reasonably available.
• University disciplinary sanctions for those who commit sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and sexual exploitation.

Student Conduct Code

The Student Conduct Code outlines the policies and procedures governing a student’s education and their behavior as a student at Temple University.

To fulfill its functions of promoting and disseminating knowledge, the university has authority and responsibility for maintaining order and for taking appropriate action, including, without limitation, exclusion of those who disrupt the educational process. These general behavioral expectations and the university Student Conduct Code represent a reasonable regulation of student conduct. The Student Conduct Code recognizes that it is the student’s responsibility to: 

• Foster an environment conducive to continued intellectual and educational stimulation within the university free from unlawful harassment by other members of the community; and
• Foster the maintenance of physical and mental health, the safety and welfare of each member of the community; and
• Respect the rights of others.

University Employees

All discipline for employees will be addressed through an impartial investigation and resolved promptly and fairly through the appropriate disciplinary process, which will afford the victim appropriate rights and considerations through the appropriate investigatory and hearing process conducted.
 

Sexual Harassment

Temple University is committed to providing a learning and working environment that emphasizes the dignity and worth of every member of its community, free from discriminatory conduct. Sexual harassment in any form or context will not be tolerated. Sexual harassment subverts the mission and the work of the university and can threaten the career, educational experience and well-being of students, faculty and staff.
