LGBTQIA+ inclusivity in commencement

Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership hosts Lavender Graduation, an annual event recognizing the contributions and accomplishments of graduating seniors of the LGBTQIA+ community at Temple University. All are welcome to attend the ceremony and assist in celebrating the contributions of our graduates.

Qualifications

This intimate afternoon event allows LGBTQIA and ally students, faculty, staff and alumni to connect one last time before graduation and summer break. IDEAL will also recognize 2-3 staff/faculty members during this timeframe for their outstanding work and contributions in advancing gender and sexuality. 

Applications are generally available during the Fall semester. Complete the nomination application, either by self-nominating OR being nominated by someone.  Once submitted, the Lavender Graduation facilitators will contact nominees with commencement dates. 

Eligibility for this honor is consistent with the following qualifications:

  • An enrolled student at Temple University with an expected to graduate in May or December of 2024
  • Identifies as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Completes the nomination, either by self-nominating OR being nominated by someone
