Why become a Safe Zone Certified Trainer?

You can assist the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership in training the Temple community on gender and sexuality inclusion issues.

Our comprehensive Safe Zone programs provides a foundational approach in working towards LGBTQIA+ advocacy. These trainings are designed to create spaces that support inclusion and belonging across the campus and in within society. 

As a certified trainer, you assist others in:

  • Enhancing an individual's understanding of gender, sex, and sexuality
  • Engaging in dialogue surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Understanding the importance of inclusive language while also exploring pronoun usage
  • Engaging in activities to heighten LGBTQIA+ allyship and advocacy

Our office offers a comprehensive curriculum in training individuals in being certified for leading Safe Zone workshops.

Prerequisites and Requirements

Prior to signing up to the Safe Zone Certified Trainer course, individuals should meet the requirements listed below.

Step 1: Complete the Safe Zone Certified Trainer Application

Express interest by applying!

Provide necessary information to register for an upcoming certification training.  

Step 2: Complete the necessary coursework and training.

Learn how to engage in topics surrounding LGBTQIA+ issues.

Attend a 3.5-hour intensive IDEAL certified trainer session gender and sexuality inclusion. This is an in-person experience allowing for prospective trainers to engage with IDEAL Certified Facilitators while being provided the necessary onboarding information. 

Step 3: Complete your certification exam.

Test your knowledge of gender and sexuality inclusion

An exam will be administered on content that was provided through the Train-the-trainer session. Participants will be provided information to complete the certification exam.

Step 4: Demonstrate your knowledge through observation.

Upon completing the certification exam, trainers should complete two observation sessions (Safe Zone I and Safe Zone II) as supplemental trainers alongside an IDEAL Certified Facilitator.
