Graduate Positions

IDEAL offers two graduate specialist roles focused on gender and sexuality inclusion and student belonging. These positions play a key role in supporting leadership for the Gender and Sexuality Center and Intercultural & Student Belonging.

The Office of IDEAL’s Student Engagement Unit offers two graduate student specialist positions focused on Gender and Sexuality Inclusion and Intercultural Engagement and Belonging. Both roles report directly to the Senior Director of Student Engagement and play a critical part in advancing inclusive excellence and fostering a strong sense of belonging across Temple University’s campus.

Graduate assistants work closely with undergraduate interns and Diversity Peer Educators to design and implement programs, workshops, and initiatives that center diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through mentorship and program development, these positions support student success while contributing to an inclusive, supportive, and socially conscious campus environment.

Gender & Sexuality Inclusion, Graduate Specialist

Position Summary

The Gender and Sexuality Inclusion graduate externship for Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL) supervises 2-3 interns and is responsible for the overall programming on topics supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) community. 

This role is responsible for the planning, organizing, and executing LGBTQIA+ projects from beginning to end. These projects are designed to increase the visibility and support gender and sexuality through an intersectional lens. The ideal incumbent for this role will have a holistic understanding of promoting inclusive spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community. 

Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervision of 1-2 gender and sexuality inclusion interns 
  • Oversight of the Safe Zone advocacy program 
  • Maintain Safe Zone facilitator’s training 
  • Maintain Safe Zone and the Safe Space repositories
  • Maintain IDEAL's Pride Guide
  • Keep all information for Temple University up to date on the Campus Pride Index 
  • Curriculum design for gender and sexuality inclusive workshops 
  • Assist in the administration of the Gender Inclusive Housing Living Learning Community
  • Plan additional large scales events focused on LGBTIQIA+ and allyship development (Summit, TDOR, TDOV, etc)
  • Serve in a leadership capacity with the National Coming Out Week committee 
  • Collaborate with Senior Director of Student Engagement campus wide LGBTQIA+ issues and the Pride Professional Network affinity group 
  • Serve as a facilitator on social justice themed workshops and programs 
Project Management
  • Assign all projects to interns using the designated project management system 
  • Maintain a repository of files in the designated area 
  • Create reasonable deadlines the completion of design projects by interns 
  • Actively provide feedback on GSI tasks through the project management system 
  • Actively track intern’s progress on projects 
  • Respond to LGBTQIA+ focused workshops and presentations 
Requirements and Trainings
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Temple University graduate or professional program 

  • Completion of the Safe Zone certification (can occur after hiring) 

  • Fall and spring engagement training 

  • Ability to navigate, review and create presentations 

  • Candidate should not have any unresolved student conduct violations 

  • Strong written and communication skills 

Preferred Skills
  • Professional or academic experience with intercultural engagement, belonging, inclusion, intersectionality, and social justice concepts  
  • Ability to foster and facilitate dialogue

Compensation

This position provides a 12-month appointment with an hourly wage of $22/hour for 15 hours a week.

Intercultural Engagement & Belonging, Graduate Specialist

Position Summary

The Student Engagement & Belonging, Graduate Externship for Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL) has oversight of the Inclusive Fellows Initiative (IFI) and is responsible for the collaborating on identity-based programming with our Diversity Peer Educators team.

This role is responsible for the planning, organizing, and executing projects centered on diversity from beginning to end. These projects are designed to increase the visibility and support for inclusion and belonging through an intersectional lens. The ideal incumbent for this role will have a holistic understanding of promoting inclusive spaces for intercultural engagement.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervision of 11-15 Lead Fellows for the Inclusive Fellows Initiative (6-week program for incoming first-year students)
  • Co-advise the Diversity Peer Educator team. 
  • Maintain Lead Fellows and Diversity Peer Educator canvas group and files
  • Assist with designing the student engagement curriculum and outcomes
  • Serve on departmental committees as designated
  • Collaborate with Senior Director of Student Engagement and other campus partners and cultural student groups on campus-wide programming
  • Serve as a facilitator on social justice themed workshops and programs around diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Create repository on identity related resources
  • Properly evaluate Inclusive Fellows Initiative annually while also assessing programs
  • Assist in planning Cultural Unity Week and other related large-scale programming during Weeks of Welcome
  • Actively guide planning monthly Owl Talk dialogues with Diversity Peer Educators
  • Provide feedback on curriculum and program concepts created by Diversity Peer Educators
  • Attend area meetings and host 1:1s for Lead Fellows
  • Compile semesterly reports and assessments related to intercultural programming
  • Manage all room reservations and catering for intercultural focused events
Project Management
  • Assign all projects to Lead Fellows using the designated project management system 

  • Maintain a repository of files in the designated area 

  • Create reasonable deadlines the completion of design projects by Lead Fellows and as designated to Diversity Peer Educators 

  • Actively provide feedback on intercultural related tasks through the project management system 

  • Actively track Lead Fellows progress on projects 

  • Respond to intercultural focused workshops and presentations
